DESCRIPTION:While we can think of The Feldenkrais Method® as a way to alleviate pain\, recover from injury\, or improve a skill\, at the heart of the method is the underlying principle of self-preservation\, “standing poised” on our feet. The life experiences that contributed to Moshe’s extraordinary work included very real life and death situations and the learning that came from that. The method was also born of his experience as a Judo master as well as a variety and depth of study that was led by a curious mind. \nAt this moment in history we can utilize the method of self-awareness developed by Dr. Feldenkrais in order to help us maintain resilience\, and support creativity and adaptability. \nThe slowing down and resting that happens in Feldenkrais® lessons supports the Parasympathetic Nervous System\, which can be helpful if we are feeling stressed and anxious. Being in overdrive all the time is not good for our immune systems! \nAnd our explorations of various movement puzzles in the lessons gives us the opportunity to find creative and new solutions to old and sticky patterns. Every lesson invites curiosity as we explore new possibilities in our body patterns. And indeed\, the patterns of body are patterns of mind – so we open ourselves up to new ideas and solving problems. \nI invite you to join me in this learning environment that prioritizes enjoyment in learning\, and supports whatever it is that YOU need in this moment.

DESCRIPTION:What is the “core?” What is “core strength?” What is the best way to support “core” strength and fitness? \nThere are a lot of myths and misunderstandings about what “the core” is\, and this necessarily affects how we think about strengthening our “core\,” and even how we may think about ourselves and our bodies. \nFrom a functional perspective\, we want our actions to be well-organized so that we use the least amount of effort necessary in our movements and spread the muscular work throughout our whole self. Think: big muscles do powerful work\, small muscles do sophisticated actions. When this gets out of balance we can feel tension\, tightness\, strain\, instability\, and lack of flexibility. \nWe can think about the “core” anatomically and specifically\, and it’s valuable to explore these details… and we want to avoid getting stuck in valuing some muscles over others. There are not places within ourselves that are more important to strengthen or focus on. It’s the coordination and timing of how it all works together! \nJoin Fritha for a 4-week series in which we clarify a functional way of considering what “the core” is and how this understanding can help us better clarify how to think about power\, strength\, stability\, and training. Sessions will include some discussion of anatomical structures followed by experiential practice through Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® lessons. We will also explore how this applies to various issues such as back pain\, posture\, breathing\, pelvic health\, spinal movement\, and spine health.

It aims to stimulate bones\, connective tissues\, and muscles. Moving from the center is essential. It is fun when you have taken Feldenkrais ATM® lessons and have developed awareness for yourself already\, as the pace is faster. It could be more in line with Ruthy Alon when she combined all the different rolling movements and created transitions. The class may be bilingual as German students are present who sometimes need translation.

After attending the classes for a while\, you will find improved flexibility\, breathing\, coordination\, and balance. No prior experience is necessary. \nFeldenkrais® is based on a sophisticated understanding of the human nervous system that helps students continuously improve their functioning in all areas of life. This method uses learning in the way that babies learn: through exploring movement and sensing the environment\, in order to get whatever it is we most want out of life. For a baby that may be reaching for a toy and bringing it to the mouth\, but for an adult\, that may be learning to play a sport better\, becoming a better actor or dancer\, living a pain-free life\, increasing productivity at work\, or finding harmony at home. Many students of the Feldenkrais Method® find their physical and non-physical problems spontaneously disappearing as they increase their self-awareness.
