SUMMARY:Move Without Pushing: Feldenkrais® for Autistic/ADHD Burnout & Chronic Illness
DESCRIPTION:A free gentle somatic movement workshop for burnout\, chronic pain\, hypermobility\, body awareness\, & nervous system regulation.\n\nWhether you’re neurodivergent\, dealing with burnout or chronic illness\, or just curious\, this workshop will help you learn more about the Feldenkrais Method® of somatic movement for neurodivergent folks and people with chronic illness and help you feel more safety\, ease\, and comfort in your body.\n\nThis is a bottom-up\, non-verbal approach that works with the way your brain learns\, so you can feel what’s happening as it’s happening and make choices that actually work for you. You’ll learn to find more support from your skeleton\, so your muscles don’t have to do all the work.\n\nFormat: Online. Intro + 35-minute guided Awareness Through Movement® lesson (no experience needed) + space for questions & community connections.\n\nYou lie on a mat or sit in a chair\, and a certified teacher guides you through small\, slow movements to explore your movement patterns and discover new options. There’s no stretching\, exercise\, or positions to hold\, and everything is adaptable for all bodies and energy levels.\n\n“Alex brings an inspiring level of clarity\, curiosity\, inclusivity and invitation. With skill and humility\, she holds compassionate space for all bodies.” – Kasey\n\n“I have been healing rheumatoid arthritis for 18.5 years and was amazed to find more comfort and ease in my body after working with Alex.” – Alegra-Ray\n\nAbout your facilitator: Alex Toenniges (they/she) is a late-diagnosed AuDHDer (autistic & ADHD)\, Guild Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner\, & Registered Somatic Movement Educator\, with lived experience of complex chronic illness. I created this work because I needed it—and because too many neurodivergent adults are asked to explain themselves instead of given proper support.\n\nMore info at autisticsomatics.com\n\nRegister at calendly.com/alextoenniges/move-without-pushing\n\nAn audio recording will be emailed to all registered participants.

SUMMARY:Successful Alignment in Standing
DESCRIPTION:This is a seated and standing lesson. \nYou will need a firm chair as well as a wall for leaning into. \nThis 45 minutes Class will explore ways of sensing how you align your spine from your head to your ankles. By using the wall as a reference in different ways we will explore preferences as well as how you might shift weight. \nIt is a fun exploration and will leave you feeling tall with a changed pattern of walking. It is also a perfect lesson for those that can not lie on the floor!

SUMMARY:Elusive Safety: Finding Center - A Class for Queer Folx & Allies
DESCRIPTION:This Awareness Through Movement® lesson explores the central line of the spine — its organization right to left\, and its lengthening top to bottom — as a way of researching what “center” means functionally in the body\, not just conceptually. Through small\, differentiated movements\, we’ll investigate how the spine coordinates lateral and vertical organization in relationship to the whole self\, refining self-image and orientation to midline. As clarity in this pattern increases\, so often does a felt sense of returning to center — in the body\, and in oneself. \nElusive Safety is a monthly\, queer-centered somatic class held over Zoom. The 45-minute ATM® lesson is followed by 15 minutes of live-only community connection — unrecorded time held specifically for queer folx to be together in their bodies without needing to explain or translate their experience. Allies are welcome as guests: to listen and witness\, not to center their own process. \nOffered free this month as part of Fall Feldenkrais Awareness Week (Sept 25–Oct 4). No prior experience with the Feldenkrais Method® is necessary — all movement can be adapted\, including staying still and simply noticing. \nWednesday\, September 30 · 1pm ET / 10am PT · via ZoomSharon Costianes\, GCFP

SUMMARY:A leg to stand on | New students attend free during Feldenkrais® Week
DESCRIPTION:Join me this fall for Feldenkrais® lessons around the theme\, “A Leg to Stand On” . . . but remember\, this is Feldy-land. It doesn’t mean that we won’t be moving our arms and necks and other parts. We will learn to sense and move our whole selves for a more grounded stance\, and a better-balanced stride. Your sore feet\, knees and hips will love it. It’s also not uncommon for people with back pain\, shoulder pain and neck pain to find relief from easier sitting\, standing and walking. \nWhen we have ‘a leg to stand on\,’ the effect is not just physical: We can sense our centeredness\, relate to others from a clearer stance\, and feel more more confident in making non-habitual choices.

SUMMARY:Embodying Confidence
DESCRIPTION:Text Serena at 801-318-9860 to register for this event. \nThe address will be sent after you register.  (The studio I’ve been teaching at recently closed and the new space is not confirmed yet.)  \n  \nMost character traits we understand as ideas. Grounded. Confident. Open. But when a trait is truly ours\, we don’t think about it. We feel it. There’s a felt sense of it through the whole body\, and that’s why we can reach it quickly\, without conjuring anything. \nTake confidence. Stand tall\, pull your shoulders back\, lift your chest. You won’t feel confident. You’ll feel like you’re faking it. In this work\, your system finds where your shoulders naturally rest\, where your feet meet the floor\, how your spine lines up so looking out at the horizon becomes the natural thing. When you stand\, it comes together as a whole. You didn’t put it on. You built it. \n  \nEach week\, we take one trait and explore it through an Awareness Through Movement® lesson. Slow\, mostly lying on the floor\, with small movements and a lot of noticing. No experience needed. Nothing to get right. \nThis class is part of a 10-week series\, and also works as a stand-alone session.

SUMMARY:Resiliency and Adaptability
DESCRIPTION:“Whereas health is conventionally thought of as a static state to be maintained\, Moshe defined health as a dynamic condition\, the ability to recover from shocks. Whether originating from within or without\, from sickness or accident\, from violence or social upheaval shocks perturb our balance; health is the capability of regaining balance and standing poised again on one’s feet.” – Mark Reese\, from Moshe Feldenkrais: A Life in Movement  \n While we can think of The Feldenkrais Method® as a way to alleviate pain\, recover from injury\, or improve a skill\, at the heart of the method is the underlying principle of self-preservation\, “standing poised” on our feet. The life experiences that contributed to Moshe’s extraordinary work included very real life and death situations and the learning that came from that. The method was also born of his experience as a Judo master as well as a variety and depth of study that was led by a curious mind. \n\nAt this moment in history we can utilize the method of self-awareness developed by Dr. Feldenkrais in order to help us maintain resilience\, and support creativity and adaptability. \n\nThe slowing down and resting that happens in Feldenkrais® lessons supports the Parasympathetic Nervous System\, which can be helpful if we are feeling stressed and anxious. Being in overdrive all the time is not good for our immune systems! \n\nAnd our explorations of various movement puzzles in the lessons gives us the opportunity to find creative and new solutions to old and sticky patterns. Every lesson invites curiosity as we explore new possibilities in our body patterns. And indeed\, the patterns of body are patterns of mind – so we open ourselves up to new ideas and solving problems. \n\nI invite you to join me in this learning environment that prioritizes enjoyment in learning\, and supports whatever it is that YOU need in this moment.\n\n

SUMMARY:Lesson for Soul Maturity – Improve Your Digestibility of Life
DESCRIPTION:Free Lesson for Soul Maturity – Improve Your Digestibility of Life\nPart 1 of the 2-Part Free Introductory Seminar & Workshop\nMy Feldenkrais® practice focuses on soul maturity. Dr. Feldenkrais learned Judo\, a Japanese martial art that has the common purpose of the Study of Self\, which is also aligned with Zen Buddhism – both having a common goal of maturing our soul. \nWhen we stagnate with excess tension within our physical self\, it is difficult to mature our soul. Maturing our soul means moving forward in our daily life. So the more you stagnate with excess tension\, the more difficult it is for you to move forward. \nAlso\, as described in Eastern Medicine\, excess tension results from undigested emotional energy caused by improper interaction among all vital organs.  In particular\, for proper brain function\, posture\, and spiritual growth\, we must restore balance and harmony among these organs to improve our energy digestion\, reduce excess tension\, mature our soul\, and move forward. \nAs such\, our digestive function is not only for digesting food\, but more importantly\, for digesting our experiences and emotions. \nMakiko will introduce you to how to attain soul maturity via the Feldenkrais Method®. \nMakiko has been a Feldenkrais Method® practitioner since 2006\, as well as a GAPS Diet practitioner and Nutritional Consultant. \nInquiries & Registration by email to infoatNHA@gmail.com\, and please put the subject: Fall  Feldenkrais® Week Event.\nEvent date\, time\, and time zone \nPart 1- from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm EST on Thursday\, October 1st – Seminar with Q&A \nPart 2 – from 2 pm to 4 pm EST on Saturday\, October 3rd – ATM® Lesson with Q&A \nLocation: \nPart 1: Online \nPart 2: Online & In-Person at InfiniteSpacenyc.com \nPlease register at infoatNHA@gmail.com \nRegistration for both events will be closed on Sunday\, September 27th.

SUMMARY:Is Feldenkrais® Right for Me?
DESCRIPTION:Many people have heard about the Feldenkrais Method® and are curious about it\, but still wonder\, “Is it right for me?” They may have heard how it helped a friend’s knee\, an uncle’s chronic tension\, or a sister’s balance\, yet aren’t sure how Feldenkrais® might relate to their own particular concerns\, interests\, or goals. \nIn this experiential online workshop\, we’ll explore your questions through movement. Rather than simply talking about what Feldenkrais® can do\, we’ll use Awareness Through Movement® lessons and explorations to experience how the Method can address the questions and interests of the people in the room. \nCome with your curiosity—and discover what Feldenkrais® might offer you.

SUMMARY:A Wonderful 'Child' of the Feldenkrais® Method - The Sounder Sleep System™
DESCRIPTION:The Sounder Sleep System ‘Sominar’ \n\n\n\n\n\nDeveloped by Michael Krugman \, Feldenkrais® Practitioner\, the Sounder Sleep System offers a holistic approach to insomnia and anxiety. It is well known that fast\, vigorous\, physical movements like we do in aerobics or competitive sports activate the sympathetic nervous system\, producing a “stress response” marked by heightened vigilance. Your blood pressure\, heart rate\, muscle tone\, and other metabolic factors are elevated\, and brain activity is increased. In other words\, powerful movements wake you up. \n\n\n\n“Since I took the Sounder Sleep System workshop I am truly sleeping better than in many years. I get up feeling well rested and refreshed!”– J. R.\, cancer survivor \n\n\n\nOur great discovery is that the reverse is also true. At the opposite end of the movement spectrum\, we find that tiny\, slow\, bodily movements directly activate the parasympathetic nervous system\, triggering the body’s inborn mechanisms for rest\, recuperation\, and healing. Your blood pressure\, heart rate\, muscle tone\, and other metabolic factors decline\, brain activity slows\, and vigilance is reduced. Your body relaxes and your mind is clear and calm. \n\n\n\nAnd as it turns out\, these physiological and psychological responses to movement are the very same ones that occur at the onset of natural sleep. In other words\, tiny\, barely perceptible movements create all the physical and mental conditions necessary for natural\, restful sleep. And the result is the exactly same: you feel deliciously drowsy\, and little by little you drift into a blissful\, restorative slumber. \n\n\n\nParis will lead you through several easy-to-learn brief techniques to calm your mind\, relax your musculature and lull you to the shores of sleep. \n\n\n\nWrite to pariskern@comcast.net to register and receive the zoom link.
