DESCRIPTION:The Sounder Sleep System™ is based on the discovery that certain small\, slow\, repeated physical movements can shift us from the active\, waking state to a state of profound physical and mental repose. When we reach that tranquil state\, if we need sleep\, we will fall asleep. \nThe core principle of the Sounder Sleep System is that we can use small\, slow\, gentle bodily movements to initiate and amplify the nervous system’s inhibitory process\, at will. The result is natural\, restful sleep whenever we need it. \nThis is the second module in a three module training to be a certified Sounder Sleep System™ teacher. You can take the modules in any order and you can take one module stand alone for your own personal growth. Feldenkrais® Movement practitioners can receive Continuing Competence credit for this workshop. \nTeacher: Paris Kern is a singer\, communicator\, community builder\, and teacher. She has been a Sounder Sleep System® Teacher since 1999 when its creator\, Michael Krugman\, completed his first teacher training . DESCRIPTION:This class is based on the Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education and Release Technique dance training. There are fewer pauses\, and the movement sequences are more involved. It aims to stimulate bones\, connective tissues\, and muscles. Moving from the center is essential. It is fun when you have taken Feldenkrais ATM® lessons and have developed awareness for yourself already\, as the pace is faster. It could be more in line with Ruthy Alon when she combined all the different rolling movements and created transitions. The class may be bilingual as German students are present who sometimes need translation.

DESCRIPTION:Since Awareness Through Movement® (ATM®) lessons can be described as a modern sensory motor approach to developing awareness\, I coach you in learning ways to become more aware of your patterns of how you approach and activate movement. You learn through self-discovery how you can do the movements with more ease\, and then take that learning into your everyday life and experiences. \nMost of the movements are done lying down: mostly on your back or side. You learn to explore differences between your sides. This helps you transform and improve the quality of your life. ATM® classes use movement and sensory discrimination to help you open to awareness and refine how you function in the world. \nThis leads to biological fitness\, ease of movement\, recovery from injury and emotional dignity\, as you discover the resources necessary to meet the uncertainty of our times. \nWhen I teach\, I watch as carefully as I can to what each person is doing\, coaching through words\, often repeating the instructions in different ways. I also give people the chance to ask questions if they do not understand something\, though I encourage people to listen\, pay attention and find their own way through the movements. It is important that no strain or stress is created and I continually suggest that the movements be done with a lighter and effortless quality\, continually offering more guidance\, suggestions and questions that can help them tune into their own sensations and resources\, thereby improving their self-image.

This method uses learning in the way that babies learn: through exploring movement and sensing the environment\, in order to get whatever it is we most want out of life. For a baby that may be reaching for a toy and bringing it to the mouth\, but for an adult\, that may be learning to play a sport better\, becoming a better actor or dancer\, living a pain-free life\, increasing productivity at work\, or finding harmony at home. DESCRIPTION:In the face of a challenge\, many of us hold our breath\, speed up\, and shift our focus to what we DON’T want to have happen—robbing ourselves of our most valuable resources at the exact moment that we need them most! \nThis 6 week course is a fun and compassionate way to observe your own unique patterns of protection and practice spreading your effort more effectively inside of a challenge. Each lesson will build on the one before it\, so this series will be sold as a package. Lessons will be recorded and sent out to all who sign up in case you need to miss a week or two. \nWe will meet over Zoom (11am Pacific Time) to engage in a 50 minute movement sequence\, followed by optional discussion and reflection. \nWhat you will need: \n– 4 hardback books\, large enough to cover the entire sole of your foot (children’s picture books \, light coffee table books or sketch books work well) \n– A space on the floor that is large enough that you could make a snow angel \n– An open mind and a playful spirit \nIf you are wondering if this course is right for you\, please book a consultation with me and we can discuss any concerns. \nCan’t wait!

In this session we’ll bring in some fun lessons along these lines that get us moving through space—up\, down\, across and over. The period of movement development from rolling over to first walking steps (roughly ages 0 to 1.5) is one of enormous growth for wee humans. This explosion of motor development runs concurrently with consolidating our first sense-of-self as individuals and members of community. The lessons in this series will touch into this newness—gently and playfully.
