SUMMARY:Sounder Sleep System™ Training
DESCRIPTION:The Sounder Sleep System™ is based on the discovery that certain small\, slow\, repeated physical movements can shift us from the active\, waking state to a state of profound physical and mental repose. When we reach that tranquil state\, if we need sleep\, we will fall asleep. \nThe core principle of the Sounder Sleep System is that we can use small\, slow\, gentle bodily movements to initiate and amplify the nervous system’s inhibitory process\, at will. The result is natural\, restful sleep whenever we need it. \nThis is the second module in a three module training to be a certified Sounder Sleep System™ teacher. You can take the modules in any order and you can take one module stand alone for your own personal growth. Feldenkrais® Movement practitioners can receive Continuing Competence credit for this workshop. \nTeacher: Paris Kern is a singer\, communicator\, community builder\, and teacher. She has been a Sounder Sleep System® Teacher since 1999 when its creator\, Michael Krugman\, completed his first teacher training . She has also been Feldenkrais Movement Practitioner since 1992\, and has attained the highest professional certification as a designated Feldenkrais Movement Teacher Trainer.

DESCRIPTION:While we can think of The Feldenkrais Method® as a way to alleviate pain\, recover from injury\, or improve a skill\, at the heart of the method is the underlying principle of self-preservation\, “standing poised” on our feet. The life experiences that contributed to Moshe’s extraordinary work included very real life and death situations and the learning that came from that. The method was also born of his experience as a Judo master as well as a variety and depth of study that was led by a curious mind. \nAt this moment in history we can utilize the method of self-awareness developed by Dr. Feldenkrais in order to help us maintain resilience\, and support creativity and adaptability. \nThe slowing down and resting that happens in Feldenkrais® lessons supports the Parasympathetic Nervous System\, which can be helpful if we are feeling stressed and anxious. Being in overdrive all the time is not good for our immune systems! \nAnd our explorations of various movement puzzles in the lessons gives us the opportunity to find creative and new solutions to old and sticky patterns. Every lesson invites curiosity as we explore new possibilities in our body patterns. DESCRIPTION:What is the “core?” What is “core strength?” What is the best way to support “core” strength and fitness? \nThere are a lot of myths and misunderstandings about what “the core” is\, and this necessarily affects how we think about strengthening our “core\,” and even how we may think about ourselves and our bodies. \nFrom a functional perspective\, we want our actions to be well-organized so that we use the least amount of effort necessary in our movements and spread the muscular work throughout our whole self. Think: big muscles do powerful work\, small muscles do sophisticated actions. When this gets out of balance we can feel tension\, tightness\, strain\, instability\, and lack of flexibility. \nWe can think about the “core” anatomically and specifically\, and it’s valuable to explore these details… and we want to avoid getting stuck in valuing some muscles over others. There are not places within ourselves that are more important to strengthen or focus on. It’s the coordination and timing of how it all works together! \nJoin Fritha for a 4-week series in which we clarify a functional way of considering what “the core” is and how this understanding can help us better clarify how to think about power\, strength\, stability\, and training. Sessions will include some discussion of anatomical structures followed by experiential practice through Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® lessons. We will also explore how this applies to various issues such as back pain\, posture\, breathing\, pelvic health\, spinal movement\, and spine health.

DESCRIPTION:Ongoing drop-in classes for anyone with special focus on those recovering from chronic mindbody/neuroplastic pain and other chronic symptoms. \nStudents are verbally guided through mindful movement lessons that heighten somatic awareness. Each Feldenkrais lesson explores a different movement sequence designed to evoke curiosity and enhance neuroplasticity.​​ Somatic Awareness classes are gentle enough for all ability levels and challenging enough for all who seek greater sensorimotor integration and a heightened sense of well-being. \nOffered twice monthly on the **1st and 3rd Thursday** of each month at **4:00 pm PT.**\nExceptions: January 2026 = 1/08 & 1/22 due to New Year’s Day; July 2026 = 7/09 & 7/23 due to the July 4th holiday. \nZoom link provided in your payment receipt.

It is a way to open one’s subjective reality from internalized historical constraints into profound awareness and personal freedom. \nThis class uses movement and sensory discrimination to help people open to awareness and refine how they function in the world. \nMany people have turned to mindfulness practices to find internal peace and openness to meet the stress they face in daily life. Awareness Through Movement is extremely efficient and effective in helping people learn to tune into their own historic experience and find new pathways of action.
