Ongoing, drop-in, weekly Awareness Through Movement(R)lessons:

This class is for beginners as well as those with any amount of experience with the Feldenkrais Method(R) of somatic education and Awareness Through Movement. During the class, I verbally guide you through a sequence of movements intended to clarify and refine for your nervous system a functional movement pattern that you might find in  everyday actions and specialized skills. As you do the movements, I also guide your attention to kinesthetic, proprioceptive and other sensations. Interpreting verbal instructions into movement creates a very different experience than copying a modeled demonstration; it induces greater awareness of what you’re doing and sensing, and it allows for a more self-directed and exploratory learning process. Because the intention is to increase awareness of subtle distinctions, you usually make slow and small movements, using as little effort as possible.

Lessons may vary as far as being done lying on the floor (or bed, if necessary), sitting on the floor or chair, or occasionally standing. While it’s helpful for me to view you as you do the lesson, it’s fine if you prefer not to be on camera. You’ll only need to be able to hear me. (Not that I never demonstrate a movement.) The lessons will be done via Zoom. I keep the class size limited to 10. Please email me to be invited to a class and to receive weekly emails with brief descriptions of the upcoming classes.

Even though it’s yet another thing you do in front of a screen, it’s actually a break from your screen. You usually lie down and close your eyes and loosen those restrictive habits that get reinforced by using our digital technology devices for too long!
